Academic Honesty In a nutshell: all work you submit for this course must be your own work, completed without assistance, unless instructed otherwise. From the UBC Calendar: “Academic honesty is essential to the continued functioning of the University of British Columbia as an institution of higher learning and research.  All UBC students are expected to behave as honest and responsible members of an academic community. Breach of those expectations or failure to follow the appropriate policies, principles, rules, and guidelines of the University with respect to academic honesty may result in disciplinary action.” Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to: having someone else help you with your assignments having someone else do your assignments for you using assignments from other classes or schools using translation software, Google Translate, the internet or other apps to complete your assignments using notes, the textbook, the internet, and/or other persons to complete exams and tests. In addition to UBC’s policies on Academic Integrity and the information provided above, for this course: Students are not permitted to use materials of any kind during tests, quizzes or exams, unless instructed otherwise. This includes the internet; Google Translate and Babelfish; apps; paper or online dictionaries; texts; notes; the textbook or other books; or any other items. Students must not use Google Translate or any similar app, online resource, online or paper dictionary to complete assignments and homework. For written assignments (worksheets and compositions) students are allowed to use the textbook, the materials provided on Canvas, and their own notes, unless otherwise instructed. Students are required to complete all tests, quizzes, assignments (not including pair or group work), and exams by themselves and without help of any kind.  Discipline All cases of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Asian Studies Department and to the Dean. Penalties range from a minimum of a score of 0 for the test or assignment to a maximum of expulsion from the University.
